A Letter from the President ~

Welcome to the Mobile Bay Area Apartment Association and the year of “The Climb”. 2012 is already shaping up to be a phenomenal year with many events and education seminars in the works. The MBAAA is proving that it truly is here for all of its members; from managers to leasing agents, maintenance to vendors, there is something for everyone! The MBAAA’s board of directors will continue to bring all information that is pertinent to our industry to you. With its involvement to The Alabama Apartment Association as well as The National Apartment Association, the MBAAA is equipped and motivated to stay on top to bring its members the very best.

Since the mid 1980’s, when the association was formed, the MBAAA has stayed true to its Code of Ethics, keeping ever mindful of the duties and responsibilities that keep it running in a positive and honest fashion. The MBAAA has for many years provided education through seminars and classes, keeping property personnel on top. It has also provided for the local community through donations and countless service hours. The association also provides an expo for the vendors annually giving them a chance to network with prospect customers in one room. Let us not forget maintenance. The MBAAA has joined with HD Supply and NAA in bringing Maintenance Mania to Mobile. This event is an annual one night showdown where the maintenance personnel show off their skills.

All of the above has kept this association strong, but without the actual members none of this would be possible. In 2012 we look to grow the association in numbers while still holding numerous events and seminars. We look to learn how to maintain multi-housing communities in a time that has brought job loss and livelihood changes in an economy that is slowly turning to the upside. We look to ourselves and ask “what can I do to make a difference?” We will begin “The Climb” together and as we do, we will learn that we all are in this together and we all share a common goal---the resident. Without the resident none of this would ever be possible.
Our General Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month at Heron Lakes Country Club. I invite any non-member to attend a meeting and see firsthand how the MBAAA makes a difference.

Finally, I am honored and humbled to serve this association as President for 2012. We have a strong board in place with experienced people that bring endless knowledge and ideas. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas feel free to contact any of us. This is your association and we “climb” together.

Respectfully,
Rob Johansen, MBAAA President 2012
